Was Jesus the One Who Led Israel in the Exodus?
Is the YHWH of the plagues, Red Sea and Sinai different from the Jesus of the cross?
The New Testament places Christ within Exodus as the wilderness Rock and the fulfilment of Passover; Xiaoyang further identifies the visible YHWH of bush, pillar and Sinai with the pre-incarnate Son.
Is the YHWH of the plagues, Red Sea and Sinai different from the Jesus of the cross?
- 01The apostles place Christ within Moses’ and Israel’s Exodus rather than separating Old Testament YHWH from New Testament Jesus.
- 02The bush messenger speaks as the patriarchs’ God; Xiaoyang identifies this sent visible YHWH with the pre-incarnate Son.
- 03The plagues answer slavery, infanticide and repeated refusal: liberation for the oppressed and judgment for the oppressor.
- 04Passover, cross and Revelation form a Lamb-centred line of redemption and judgment.
- 05The global new-Exodus model is a theological analogy, not an explicit second ten-plague timetable.
- 06The golden calf retained YHWH’s name; modern counterfeits may retain Jesus’ name while transferring allegiance to systems, nation, wealth or technology.
- 07Coming out of Babylon begins in the heart; present preparation is faithful freedom from idolatry, not panic flight.

Terminology for Christian and Jewish readers
Torah names the Pentateuch; YHWH is the four-letter divine name; mal’akh first means a sent messenger; Christos corresponds to Messiah. Christians confess the Son’s pre-existence while differing over whether each Old Testament theophany is Christ.
Many Christians carry two gods emotionally
Readers often contrast a severe Old Testament YHWH with a gentle New Testament Jesus. The apostles resist this split by placing Christ within Exodus, Moses and the wilderness.
Why does Paul say the rock was Christ?
First Corinthians 10 explicitly calls the spiritual rock Christ. Exodus 17 also places YHWH at Horeb’s rock. Xiaoyang infers that the YHWH who stood and supplied water may be the pre-incarnate Son; Paul does not spell out that final identification.
Christ is already present in Moses’ story
Hebrews links Moses with the reproach of Christ. Mainstream readers may see forward-looking faith; Xiaoyang adds that Moses may have served the visible pre-incarnate Christ.
Why does the bush messenger speak as Abraham’s God?
Exodus 3 moves from YHWH’s messenger to YHWH and God, and the speaker identifies himself as the patriarchs’ God. Divine agency is one explanation; Xiaoyang sees a major pre-incarnate Son theophany.
My name is in him
Exodus 23’s sent messenger bears YHWH’s name and authority. Some Christian traditions connect such a figure with Christ; Xiaoyang applies this model systematically, beyond universal consensus.
Who went before the pillar?
YHWH, the divine messenger and the cloud-fire presence overlap around the sea. Xiaoyang says Christ led Israel through Moses, but Scripture does not directly label the messenger’s Trinitarian person.
Did Jesus send the plagues?
If visible YHWH is the Son, then Jesus participates in Exodus judgment as well as salvation. Exodus does not individually label the personal agent of every plague, so this remains a theological conclusion.
The plagues were not contextless rage
Egypt enslaved Israel, killed Hebrew sons and repeatedly rejected warnings. Love that never restrains Pharaoh would abandon victims. The same act is liberation for the oppressed and judgment for the oppressor.
The Lamb also judges
Revelation speaks of the Lamb’s wrath. The crucified Christ bears sin and also ends unrepentant violence; mercy and holiness are not rival deities.
The first Exodus already centred on a lamb
Passover blood shields Israel’s households. The New Testament identifies Christ with the Passover lamb, turning Exodus into foundational language for cross, resurrection and liberation from sin and death.
Why Revelation’s trumpets and bowls resemble Egypt
Blood, darkness, sores and hail deliberately echo Exodus. Calling the trumpets and bowls a global new ten plagues is Xiaoyang’s analogy, not a one-to-one biblical code.
One enlarged Exodus story
Egypt, Pharaoh, plagues, lamb and liberation correspond in Xiaoyang’s model to Babylon, beast, trumpets-bowls, Lamb and Christ’s kingdom. The complete schedule is synthesis, not one explicit passage.
The golden calf retained YHWH’s name
Aaron proclaimed a feast to YHWH beside the calf. The danger was not only abandoning the name but remaking God into a manageable image. Modern politics, nation, church success and security can be projected onto a Jesus-shaped idol.
A false Jesus may keep people comfortable in Babylon
The most dangerous counterfeit may allow Christian words while protecting systems, wealth and comfort from repentance. Its test is whether it leads toward the Lamb and the cross or baptises our preferred captivity.
Church, nation, state and technology are not inherently evil
Institutions and tools can serve real goods. They become idolatrous when they claim Christ’s ultimate allegiance, erase his uniqueness or coerce worship-like obedience. Present entities must not be called Babylon without evidence.
My people, come out
Revelation calls God’s own people out of Babylon, warning against sharing her sins and collapse. Christian identity does not remove the consequences of binding life entirely to an unjust order.
Lot’s wife left bodily but looked back
Lot’s wife physically left Sodom but looked back; Israel left Egypt yet desired return. Exodus from Babylon therefore begins in the heart before it becomes geographic.
Could a future crisis require physical departure?
Xiaoyang speculates that the second half of his final-seven-year model may make departure from controlling systems practical. Scripture gives no universal post-rapture flight command; safety, law, medicine and vulnerable family members still matter.
Preparation today is not flight to a forest
Do not quit work, sell homes, reject medicine, banking or technology, or isolate families because of prediction. Use ordinary systems without making them conditions for loyalty to Jesus; act on evidence and responsible safety guidance.
The bowls are not Jesus suddenly becoming cruel
If Christ already led Exodus, Revelation is not a personality change. The Lord warns, bears sinners’ cost and finally says enough to a beastly order that refuses repentance.
Which Jesus is leading you?
The decisive question is not merely one’s label but whether the Jesus followed liberates from slavery, exposes idols and gives himself—or keeps the believer comfortably inside a controllable religious Babylon.
Frequently asked questions
Does Scripture directly say Jesus led the Exodus?
It explicitly places Christ in Israel’s wilderness story and identifies him with Passover. Identifying bush, pillar and every visible YHWH with the Son remains interpretation.
Did Jesus send the ten plagues?
That follows within Xiaoyang’s visible-YHWH model, but Exodus does not label the personal agent of every plague as the Son.
Are the trumpets and bowls a second ten plagues?
Revelation deliberately echoes Exodus, but a global new ten plagues is analogy rather than an explicit one-to-one schedule.
Are church, government, banking and technology Babylon?
Not automatically. Evidence is required; the theological issue is whether a system replaces Christ, coerces ultimate allegiance or participates in injustice.
Should Christians flee cities now?
No. Do not make unsafe life decisions from speculation. Prepare by loosening idolatrous dependence and respond to real crises with evidence, lawful guidance and concern for vulnerable people.
